groepstentoonstelling Zwart Nederlandse kunstenaars

Brian Coutinho, Avantia Damberg, Faranú, Rose Manuel, Tiquestar Illuminat Rex, Felix de Rooij en Patrick de Vries

Gastcurator/kunstenaar Charl Landvreugd verkent met Agnosia
verschillende uitingen van beeldtaal van Zwart Nederlandse
kunstenaars. Voor deze groepstentoonstelling selecteerde Landvreugd kunstenaars die werden geboren en/of opgroeiden in Nederland. Hij wil laten zien op welke wijze hun positie als Zwarte Europeaan zichtbaar is in hun werk.

Agnosia is het onvermogen om iets te herkennen dat wel met de zintuigen wordt waargenomen. De term krijgt zijn betekenis met de vragen die Landvreugd aan de orde stelt: Worden extra tekens en symboliek in de beeldtaal van de kunstenaar begrepen door de kijker/criticus en is het wel de bedoeling dat ze worden begrepen?

Landvreugd toont zijn verkenning van het Zwart Nederlandse
kunstenaarslandschap aan de hand van een sculptuur van Felix de Rooij, tekeningen van Avantia Damberg en Faranú, schilderijen van Patrick de Vries, een wandtekening van Tiquestar Illuminat Rex, keramiek van Brian Coutinho en een performance van Rose Manuel.

'Residency Tembe Art Studio'

when: january - february, 2011

location: Moengo, Surinam

function: Artist in Residence

what: invited by the initiator of Tembe Art Studio, Marcel Pinas, I spent two months in Moengo creating a sculpture for the Marowijne Art Park. My sculpture 'MOVT nr. 3' was the first object to be placed there. During the residency program I went to the villages Ricanau Mofo and Dantapu and local schools to work with pupils on art education.

'Residency BijlmAir'

location: Bijlmer, Amsterdam, Netherlands

function: Artist in Residence

what: during my residency at BijlmAir I conceived the work 'Atlantic Transformerz'. I was inspired by the African Diaspora in the Bijlmer and was looking for a way to capture the diversity. The residency came to its conclusion with a presentation at SMBA (Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam) on december 13, 2011.

'Am I Black Enough For You'

what: as part of the debating program around the show 'Paramaribo Perspectives' in TENT Rotterdam, Patricia Kaersenhout and I conceived of a debate that would highlight the thoughts of Black Dutch culturemakers. Rather then having the culture makers being talked about, the debate focused on the culture industry in the Netherlands from a Black perspective. As a result of this debate my keynote speech was publishedin:
